The EHIC give you reduced price or free healthcare in member countries in Europe. This means you can get flu advice from healthcare professionals while you are on holiday - putting your mind at rest.
You can get an EHIC application form from the post office prior to travelling, by telephone or by applying online.
Make sure you know where you can get over the counter medication in case of flu, such as Lemsip Max All in One Lemon, and if you have children, Nurofen for Children Singles (ibuprofen) - remember that children under 16 should not take aspirin if you are asking for medications while abroad. Always read the label.
When travelling, if you experience flu-like symptoms it is best to avoid public places to play your part in avoiding the spread of flu. Contact a health professional and tell them your symptoms.
